The ‘Venice Biennale’ series (2005, commissioned by ArtSway) draws attention to some unspoken aspirations and expectations of the art world.
Parodying the hierarchies of agricultural show rings with the widespread ‘horse trading’ of artists as collectable commodities, they explore a range of experiences and references to the history of art, culture and sculpture.
Familiar expressions such as ‘Bona Fide’. ‘Ars Gratia Artis’ and Latin adages have been appropriated to draw attention to creative frustrations and constantly sliding notions of what ‘success’ and legitimacy might be.
A small selection of this series are available for purchase. Charlie will also create bespoke Accolades to order.
