kiss sculptures

‘first kiss’, 2009, optical glass

These ‘kiss’  sculptures are made using a dental alginate to take a detailed impression of the inside of a kiss.

The intricate impression of this moment is then  transformed through a series of mould making techniques to create a negative space that is suspended forever within a magnifying block of optical glass. Each mouth and style of kissing is different, so each kiss sculpture is completely unique.

Charlie collected hundreds of kiss casts from all over the world through her participatory performance event – the kiss-in

Her unique survey of these forms of desire form part  her ‘Anatomy of Desire’ project which have been  exhibited at the Wellcome Collection, London and tthe Gallery at the Arts Institute, Bournemouth.

These are some examples of  the kiss sculptures.
