Charlie Murphy
Charlie Murphy (MA RCA) : Short Biography
Trained in fine art and photography, Murphy's practice explores themes and ideas related to physicality, fragility and intimacy. Drawn to overlooked rituals, behaviours and myths, her inspirations come from an eclectic variety of media and materials including photography, video, blown and cast glass and dance.
Charlie's work involves a dynamic combination of visual and live art strategies - often creating contexts in which a variety of people are invited to perform. She has exhibited in gallery, museum and performance contexts including the Venice Biennale 2005, the Edinburgh Festival 2006 and Tate Modern 2007.
Her practice has been supported by an individual artist grants from ACE (2005) for R&D towards her Tall ship show ‘Salute’, an artsadmin professional development bursary and an ongoing Artist Associateship with Artsway Contemporary Art in the New Forest – supported by the Leverhulme Trust.
